You have grown with its music from childhood nursery rhymes to school singing chores, your teenage rock start icon. Guitar is an ageless instrument which makes you smile. It can be learnt at any age. So do not hesitate to follow your dreams just read on and you will end up playing your own music.

You must have got guitar to play so here are some tips how to buy a guitar and which one will suit you. It’s not very easy to pick a right piece so you need to know some essential details about it. You will find three types of guitar acoustic, electric and classical. As its name suggest, if you have liking for classical music then choose classical guitar. Cost wise electric guitars are costlier than acoustic ones so it is always advisable for beginners to use acoustic guitar.

Much depends upon music you wish to play & how much efforts you wish to put. As electric guitars are easier to play and follow its different techniques but it requires amplifiers to plug in before play. Always try to play before buying as hard to play guitar will give you bad experience.

Watch out the actions. The distance between strings and fret board is known as actions. If strings are mounted very high then it will be difficult to play so make sure to fret a bit before buying. Actions’ height increases as we move upwards. Get the actions adjusted for you. Remember that at 12th fret action must not be greater than 5mm. always choose a guitar matching your size, choosing extra large or too small will not serve the purpose.

There are certain things you must also have while purchasing a guitar such as picks – small plastic pins to plug the strings, must have good quality portable case, chromatic tuner, metronome, strap etc.

Guitar consist of following parts namely headstock, tuning machines, neck, fret board (It is front part of the neck), bridge & body.

It is advisable to not touch the nuts, tunings etc until you are well versed with tuning the guitar.

There are total six strings namely:

Thickest string, its 6th string –E (Low)

The 5th string is known as A

Fourth is called D

Third string is known as G

Second string is known as B

Thinnest string is known as high E.

Remember it as E ADG B E.

It’s time to fret about, using your fingers press and stroke the string just above the fret. Use your finger tip to fret the string. On fret means finger on string above the fret. Keep fretting 2nd, 3rd and 4th string; you will feel that the pitch sound is increasing higher and higher. Touching the string and playing will result in no sound this is known as muting. Making the guitar ready to play is known is tuning, in this process the strings as set in particular frequency to get the right sound, there are tuning keys available to do this task. Electric guitars are always easier to tune. There is variety of tuners available like digital tuner, electric tuner, AP tuner etc.

Playing 3 or more notes at a time is known as chords. There are some basic chords C chords, D major & minor chords, G major & minor chords etc.
