It’s very important to understand basic things before jumping into learning the guitar. Bass guitar sound is governed by strings like violin and banjo etc. It consist of four strings namely EADG, E- is nearest to your body and is known as thickest string, A- is second from the E and also second position in thickness, D is quite thinner than A&E, G is thinnest string of all.
Strings are counted from left to right. Small metal pieces are known as frets, they divide the guitar from top to bottom. Frets and strings make a grid that covers entire neck of the guitar. Like electric guitar which uses pick up to tune and bass guitar uses amp to get the best sound of the guitar like any other guitar it has body, neck, head stock, nut, tuning peg & pickups are used.
It’s very important to develop good habits from the initial stage so that you do not trouble at later stages. Follow the given tips to grab the guitar correctly. Irrespective of standing or sitting position it’s advisable to use guitar strap always. This helps to balance the weight of the guitar. Always adjust the strap while changing the position & always keep your back erect. While fretting use only trimmed nails, always press the string between the frets. Always do the right plucking by placing the palm towards the body of guitar and loosely over the strings.
• Begin plucking with fourth string and note not to use the fretting hand. This process is called Note –E, also known as Open.
• Now repeat the open by moving down the strings, this process will produce A, D, G, try to differentiate each sound. Read it again and again until you learn to identify them.
• Return to 4th string and put the index finger between the first fret and adjust nut. Now use the plucking hand on 4th string. Repeat this step until you achieve the desired result of 4th string sound like half step.
• Now move to second fret and use plucking hand to pluck the 4th string again.
• Repeat the step to generate the sound higher than the previous session.
• In order to master it keep repeating it many times. It is highly recommended to do each exercise separately and then do it one go this way you will be able to measure your performance.
