how to tune a guitar

Guitar must sound good then only your hard efforts will result in melodious music. Tuning is very important and it’s very crucial for good sounding. Following are important tips for tuning guitar. Following the given instruction will help you tune your guitar.

We have numbered down the open string ranging from thickest and thinnest strings.

• E -- The 6th string also known as the thickest string. • A -- 5th string • D -- 4th string • G -- 3rd string • B -- 2nd string • E -- 1st or thinnest string Follow the step by step standard tuning technique to tune your guitar.

Step 1 - Tuning the String –E:

Begin with bottom of E string. It is the thickest string so it is rare case that it gets detuned. If you have any tuned instrument this will help you tune your guitar by E-1 below the c-middle. And if you do not have any instruments then try to make it as perfect as possible. You will be able to realize the hard work only after you play the guitar so it is highly advisable to keep playing while tuning to get the right tune.

Step 2 - the string –A

Put your left hand behind the number 5th fret just bottom of string E, this is known as note A. Keep holding the string on the same place and now pick 5th and 6th strings respectively. It’s very important to tune the 5th by holding & tuning its peg and do it until both the notes play same.

Step-3 the string –D

Now put your index finger of your left hand on string a just back of fret string 5th. It is known as D string. Now tune the 4th string with that. Play to find out how nicely it has been tuned. Readjust if desired tuning is not done.

Step-4 the string G:

Place the first finger of your left hand just behind the fifth fret on the D string. That’s a G note. Tune your G string to that note.

Step-5 the string B

Place your index finger of left hand, just back of fret 4th string. It is important to note that only string B is the only string that has different positioning at different frets like 4th fret and different on 5th frets.

Step 6- Sting E

It’s important to place the index finger of left hand on string B on back of 5th fret string. It is known as E string note.
